続・秀吉の“闘う天守”とシャチホコ池

前回は、山崎城天守に始まったと思われる豊臣秀吉の “闘う天守” のお話をしましたが、そんな秀吉の天守との位置関係において、チョット興味深い間柄にあるのが、通称「鯱鉾池」（しゃちほこいけ）です。

『肥前名護屋城図屏風』（佐賀県立名護屋城博物館蔵／部分より作成）

この屏風絵は北側（玄海灘の方）から、朝鮮出兵の “大本営” 肥前名護屋城（ひぜんなごやじょう）を描いたもので、天守は本丸塁上の北西角に（朝鮮半島および中国大陸の方に向けて）屹立していて、これも秀吉の“闘う天守”の典型でしょう。

そしてこの絵の中で、シャチホコ池は山里曲輪の手前にくっきりと描かれています。

確かに形はシャチホコの尾のようですが、実はこれが、秀吉のほかの城… 少なくとも豊臣大坂城や伏見城にも、同じ形で、ちゃんと設けられていた（！）可能性がありまして、今回は、少々余談っぽくなるかもしれませんが、このシャチホコ池と “闘う天守” の関係をお話してみたいと思います。

中世都市研究１０『港湾都市と対外交易』２００４年

秀吉渡海までの「御座所」として築かれた名護屋城は、標高約九〇メートルの「勝雄岳」の最高所に五層の天守を建て、その周囲に本丸以下の大小九箇所の曲輪を配した「総石垣造り」の本格的城郭であった。
これら山上の曲輪群の北麓には秀吉のプライベートルームに相当する上・下山里曲輪が置かれているが、その外濠としての機能を担う通称「鯱鉾池」に対面した低丘陵一帯は、秀吉直属軍の駐屯地区に比定されている。

ご覧のように、この城は北東にシャチホコ池をはさんで城下町（直属軍の駐屯地区＋町場）と港が連なり、その反対側の南西を中心にぐるりと諸大名の陣地が広がっていました。

この点について、上記書の佐賀県教育庁社会教育・文化財課の宮武正登先生は、さらにこう指摘しています。

名護屋城のグランド・プランを検討するに城郭としての防御方向は明らかに南側の山間部を向いており、城下の展開方向とは背中合わせの状態にあるといえる。
（中略）
すなわち、城は南方の丘陵地帯に林立する大名陣地群との連携（ことに加藤清正、福島正則、片桐且元、木下勝俊、堀秀治など譜代・親族系大名の陣所の密集地区に面する点は重要である）、および唐津・博多への主要往還（近世期の唐津街道）との直結を眼目としており、対するに町場は諸国からの物資の輸送起着点である軍港を拠り所として独自に発達を遂げたものと推測できる。
　
　
これまで当サイトでは、織田信長や秀吉の時代は、例えば岐阜城や安土城でも明らかなように、城の片側にしか城下町（町場）が無いケースは、むしろ当たり前の形だった、と度々申し上げて来ました。

その点、肥前名護屋城も、北東の港側に城下町、その反対側に（言わば堀切か石塁のごとくに）諸大名の陣地を置いていたことが分かり、築城プランの面白さが感じられます。

そうした中で、シャチホコ池は、秀吉の “闘う天守” の膝元近くにありながらも、城の奥向きや裏方（秀吉のプライベートな領域、城の経済・物資調達をまかなう領域）の真ん中で、ひょう然と、穏やかな風情を漂わせていた感があります。

で、ここからは当サイトの仮説なのですが、ご覧のように、伏見城本丸の北面の直下に設けられたブルーの「空堀」部分は（…以前に私が目た時は少々水が溜まっていましたが）かつての形は、何故かシャチホコ池にそっくりであり、なおかつ周囲の曲輪の関係性も肥前名護屋城に似ているようなのです。

例えばグリーンの部分、肥前名護屋城では「秀吉のプライベートルームに相当する上・下山里曲輪」ですが、伏見城でも「松ノ丸」になっていて、これは『宗湛日記』に＜木幡の関の松原を活かした茶庭と茶室があった＞と伝わる曲輪であり、秀吉の側室・松の丸殿の御殿が建てられた場所です。

しかもこの松ノ丸は、慶長地震後に伏見城が再建された時、本丸とともに真っ先に完成した曲輪とも言われ（櫻井成廣『豊臣秀吉の居城』）、秀吉の居住のためには最優先される場所（＝プライベートルーム？）であったのかもしれません。

さて、このようなシャチホコ池は、はるか以前の豊臣大坂城にも、その痕跡があった可能性をご覧いただきましょう。

このとおり豊臣大坂城にも、先ほどの肥前名護屋城や伏見城とまったく同じ位置（ブルーの部分）に、シャチホコ池の形を見いだすことが出来ます。

この水掘は左図の『僊台武鑑』の描写によりますと、大川（淀川）から舟で直接に侵入することが出来ますので、これこそ豊臣大坂城の物資調達の要を成す地点だったのかもしれません。

ですから、これが本当にシャチホコ池の元祖としますと、その機能は、やがて肥前名護屋城の例の「港」に引き継がれたことにもなります。
　
　
シャチホコ池とは、そうした “大坂城の隆盛の記憶” を引きずる存在として、肥前名護屋城にも、伏見城にも、大坂城と同じ位置にシンボリックに設けられたのではないか… などと考えることも出来るのではないでしょうか。
　
　
そして豊臣大坂城のグリーンの部分について申しますと、秀吉が死んで、関ヶ原合戦後には片桐且元の屋敷になったとされますが、それ以前はどういう風に使われたのか、よく判っていないようです。

ひょっとして、千利休か誰かの茶頭屋敷があったのなら、まことにお似合いではないかと思うのですが…
　
　
秀吉の城はほんとうに同じ手法が繰り返されていて、シャチホコ池も、常に各城で “闘う天守” の脇にあって静かに水を湛えていたのかもしれません。
