日本の千年の計として、大嘗祭を現存天守台の上で行われんことを提言申し上げます

偶然か、誰かの作為か、旧本丸に並び立った「大嘗(だいじょう)宮」と現存天守台

前回の記事をアップしてから、今上天皇の即位の礼では、どうして写真のごとき「状況」が出来(しゅったい)したのだろうか？？ という疑問がむくむくと頭の中にわき上がりまして、その後、「即位の礼」関連の本を何冊か読むことになりました。
　
　
と申しますのも、「天守台」と言えば、当サイトが注目して来たとおり、中国古来の「台」の慣習を踏まえながら、１６世紀、我が国が事実上の分裂国家に陥りかけた時、その再統一をねらう織田信長が、易姓革命の考え方（封禅や岐山の故事）にならって創始した「天守」の基壇として採用したものと申せましょう。

一方、「大嘗宮」の悠紀(ゆき)殿・主基(すき)殿と言えば、我が国で古代から、新天皇が即位の際に行う一世一度の収穫祭（新嘗祭）である「大嘗祭」で、天照大神にささげた神饌(しんせん)を自らも食し、霊力をさずかる場として、その都度、建てられて来たものです。

ですから「天守台」と「大嘗宮」は、唐様か和様か、王朝の交代（下克上）を意図したか否か、という大きな対立軸は抱えているものの、ともに両者は、新帝が天と祖先に五穀豊穣をいのる、最も重要な祭祀の場としての歴史をふまえた存在どうしである、とも言えそうだからです。…

ご覧のように旧本丸を見直しますと、この場所は図らずも、我が国の歴史の重層性を語れる貴重なエリアの一つになっているのでは… という思いを強く抱きます。

果たして偶然なのか、誰かの作為があったのか分かりませんが、このせっかくの状況に対して、現代人はこれをただの “歴史の寄り合い所帯” で終わらせてしまうのか、逆に、何かしらの歴史的な解釈を真剣に加えてもよいのではないか、という感慨にとらわれるのです。

さて、急きょ読んでみました「即位の礼」関連の本というのは、思ったとおり、右派と左派の学者先生がそれぞれの政治的立場を巧妙に織り交ぜながら解説文を書いておられ、読むのに難渋してしまうのですが、そこからなんとか読み取った範囲で申しますと…

まず「大嘗宮」というのは基本的に、ご覧のとおり、悠紀殿・主基殿とそれらを取り巻く柴垣や鳥居だけ、という形が古代から明治維新までずっと続いたそうで、その設置場所は、古代には大極殿の真ん前に、ご覧の仮設の建物と、その手前に参列者用の幄(あく／とばり)などが並んだそうです。

ちなみに悠紀殿・主基殿には、それぞれ東国と西国の米などが神饌とされたことから、大嘗祭は新天皇による日本全国の統治と、地方の服属を意味した、との指摘もありました。

そして大極殿が失われて以降の時代は、上図のように紫宸殿の前となり、この状態が明治天皇の時まで（断続的に）続きました。

ところが１９０９年の「登極令」以後は、即位の礼と大嘗祭が数日の間しか空けずに行われることになったため、仮設の建物とは言え、造営に日数がかかる関係で、大嘗宮は別の場所に設けざるをえなくなったようなのです。！

そこで大正天皇・昭和天皇の時は大嘗宮だけが仙洞御所などに設けられ、そして今上天皇の時には即位の礼も含めて初めて東京（皇居）で行われることになり、前二代と同様に、皇居正殿の前ではない “別の場所” として、旧本丸に設けられた、という経緯だったようです。
　
　
かくして、即位の礼が東京に移った理由も、海外からの参列者（ＶＩＰ）対応のため、と言われているそうで、大嘗祭の開催地がめまぐるしく変わったのは、要するに、近・現代の日本の対外関係において、天皇の代替わりの儀式が、もはや御所やその周辺だけでは済まされない、国際的なお披露目の場を兼ねていくための “代償” であった… と言うことが出来るのかもしれません。

ですから平成２年(１９９０年)に、大嘗宮が現存天守台と並び立ったのは、本当に、意図せざる事柄だったようなのです。

そもそも明治維新の結果、ご承知のとおり、江戸城は和洋折衷の明治宮殿を中心とした宮城（皇居）に変貌し、明治天皇は陸海軍を統帥し、近代の “武家の棟梁” を兼ねるような形にもなりました。

そうした様子はとりも直さず、朝廷と幕府が社会の両輪として成り立ってきた我が国において、ようやくその両輪が皇居で一元化したのかもしれず、このことをマイナス思考ばかりでとらえずに、いっそ我が国の千年の計として、未来に向けて果敢に踏み出してもいいのではないでしょうか。

そこで、現存天守台の上に、悠紀殿と主基殿を… と申し上げてみたいわけなのです。
　
　
ただ、冒頭でもご覧いただいた下図のとおり、大嘗宮は、古代から大極殿や紫宸殿の前（南側）に建てられた理由などから、建物全体が真北を向いていて、その点では、決して真北を向いているわけではない現存天守台との取り合わせは難しいのかもしれません。

ですが、だからと言って、このまま旧本丸を “歴史の寄り合い所帯” のようにしておくのは、現代に生きる日本人として、ちょっと能が無いのではないか、という気もしてならないのです。…
　
　
と、ここまで申し上げて来て、最後に一つ付け加えておきたいのが、大嘗祭は、応仁の乱から江戸初期まで２００年以上の中断があった、という一件でしょう。

室町時代、大嘗祭の費用は足利幕府が負担する形になっていたため、寛正７年１４６６年の開催を最後に、応仁の乱で幕府財政が窮乏すると中断してしまい、それから江戸初期の１６８７年まで、２２１年間、９代にわたる天皇が、即位の儀は行えても大嘗祭（大嘗会／だいじょうえ）は全く行えなかったというのです。

この件に関して、左派の先生方がまとめた本の中で（特に冒頭の “大嘗宮と現存天守台” の写真を思うと）冷や水を浴びせられたように、ハッとする指摘がありました。

秀吉や家康が大嘗会を必要であると考えれば、これをおこなうことはたやすかったはずです。しかし彼らは即位の儀をおこなうことには熱心でしたが、大嘗会をおこなおうとはしなかった。
秀吉や家康は天皇の権威を確立するために大嘗会が不可欠であるとは考えなかったのです。
　
　
この本の（大嘗祭に国民の税金が使われることに批判的な）文脈とは別に、指摘された事実は事実として、ひょっとすると、新天皇が東国や西国の収穫物を天照大神とともに食すという大嘗祭の「秘儀」について、天下人の豊臣秀吉や徳川家康が、それを政治的にきらった、という可能性は無きにしもあらずなのでしょう。

そしてようやく大嘗祭が復活したのは、時の霊元上皇が徳川幕府に強く働きかけた結果だったそうで、それは上記のとおり１６８７年（貞享４年／五代将軍綱吉の時代）のことで、ちょうど、明暦の大火で江戸城天守が失われて３０年めの年に当たりました。

！… やはり、日本再統一の記念碑とおぼしき「天守」と、「大嘗宮」の間には、何かしらの、見えない力学が働いているのかもしれません。

という風に考えたとき、現存天守台の上で大嘗祭を、という私なんぞの破天荒な妄言に対して、先人達も、最終的には「否」と言わないのではないか？ と思えてならないのですが。
