続「十尺間の天守」～『本丸図』天守台の秘密～

前回、豊臣秀吉の朝鮮出兵の本営、肥前名護屋城跡の天守台が「十尺間」を採用していた可能性のあることをご紹介しました。今回はその続報としてチョット書きます。

と申しますのも、現存の礎石群が「十尺間」で置かれていても、ひょっとするとそれは秀吉の後の時代に、誰かが「別の建物」を建てた跡である疑い を感じられる方も、いらっしゃるのではないかと思うからです。

現に１０余年前、県立名護屋城博物館が行った発掘調査の報告書にも、

「… 江戸時代前期の瓦が多量に堆積していたことから、廃城に伴い天守台を徹底的に破壊していたにもかかわらず、時を置かずに何らかの施設を配置したことも窺われる」（『特別史跡 名護屋城跡』１９９８）

との記述もあり、当時は、私もそれを鵜呑みにしていました。

肥前名護屋城跡（発掘調査中の本丸／奥が天守台跡）

ところが、その後、豊臣大坂城の天守について、ある点に違和感をもったことが、私自身の見直しのきっかけになりました。

それは、豊臣大坂城を描いた絵図として有名な、中井家蔵『大坂御城小指図』（通称『本丸図』）において、石垣の寸法の書き込みは「六尺五寸間」で記入されたと言われながらも、「天守台だけは七尺間だ」と言われて来た点です。

この『本丸図』の天守台は、極太の墨で「御天守」と書かれてはいるものの、そこに他の櫓や御殿のような「色づけ」が無く、この図が作成された時点で、本当に天守が存在したのか「不審だ」という指摘もあったものです。

つまりその場合（天守が無かった場合）、天守台の寸法は、他の石垣と同じ「六尺五寸間」で書き込みされている可能性もありうるわけです。

「ならば! ! …」と思い立ち、試しに、『本丸図』天守台の書き込みは六尺五寸間と仮定して、そこに「十尺間の天守」を想定してみますと、なんと、なんと、「十尺間の半間食い違い構造でピッタリ当てはまる」という事実を発見したのです。

左の図は、第１弾リポートに掲載中の「七尺間の秀頼再建天守」の柱割模式図です。

これは、六尺五寸間と仮定した天守台に、建築書『愚子見記』の記述（数字）を加味しながら、『本丸図』の書き込みと一切矛盾しない形で、七尺間の秀頼再建天守を重ねてみた図です。

そして右の図が、それをもとに時間をさかのぼり、「秀吉の時代は十尺間（丈間）で柱割されていた」と想定して描いた模式図で、２００８冬季リポートに掲載中のものです。

ご覧のように、十尺間の柱割は『本丸図』天守台にみごとに納まり、細部では数字の計算の上でも、本当に唖然とするほど、綺麗に、ピッタリと当てはまってしまうのです。

ちなみに「半間食い違い構造」というのは、姫路城の発掘調査で発見された、秀吉時代の天守台跡にあった特異な柱割の形式で、これは肥前名護屋城の天守台跡にも共通する部分のある手法です。

このように、十尺間（丈間）の天守とは、その根拠が肥前名護屋城跡での「発掘成果」だけでなく、『本丸図』等の「絵図（絵画史料）」や、『愚子見記』という「文献」の三つが、重なり合う部分に見いだされる知見なのです。
