前々回の記事で「駿府城天守」の話題がやや一段落したところで、この隙間のチャンスに、これまで掲載できなかった話題を是非ともご紹介したく存じます。

上の仮想イラストは、安土城の大手道をめぐる５月の記事でご覧いただいたものですが、これは「本能寺の変」後に、もしも安土山麓に “羅城門級” の巨大な大手門があったらどういう風に見えたか… という仮定の様子を描いたものでした。

さて、ご存じのとおり安土城は「本能寺の変」後も、山頂の主郭部がナゾの炎上をとげたものの、それから２年以上、織田家の本城として使われたことが判っています。

その間には、かの清須会議で織田家の家督を継いだ三法師（さんぼうし／織田秀信）の屋敷が、城内に新設されたということが文献にあるものの、それがいったいどこに当たるのか、滋賀県の発掘調査報告では全く特定されませんでした。

しかしこれは「灯台もと暗し」と申しますか、あまりにも近く、目の前にあり過ぎて見えなかった… ということではないのか、という指摘もあります。

ところで山腹－山麓武家屋敷は、信長の安土城時代の重臣屋敷とだけ捉えてよいのでしょうか。
わたくしは「伝羽柴秀吉邸」「伝前田利家邸」などは、一五八二年（天正一〇）の安土城落城から同年一二月までに整備した三法師（織田秀信）と織田信雄の御殿の一部となって、信長時代の重臣屋敷とは異なった使い方をしていたと考えています。

たとえば「伝羽柴秀吉邸」下段曲輪の豪壮な櫓門は、発掘の結果、下層の建物を埋めたのちに新たに建てた門と判明しています。
突出して立派な門は、三法師・信雄御殿造営にともなって改修新築されたものとすれば、上段と下段曲輪をひとつの武家屋敷と無理につなげて考える必要もないのです。

千田先生がおっしゃった「豪壮な櫓門」の新設のことや、これまで「伝羽柴秀吉邸」と一括りに言われていた場所が、実は直接に行き来できない二つの別個の曲輪であったこと、さらには、この一帯が「三法師（織田秀信）と織田信雄の御殿の一部」になったのかもしれない、という千田先生の指摘はたいへん興味深く、多くのイマジネーションを生むものです。

（※ですからご覧の「豪壮な櫓門」は、織田信長の存命中は、違う状態であった可能性もあるわけです）

そこで私なんぞが何か申し上げますと、“まーた余計なことを”と舌打ちされそうですが、やはりどうしても気になって仕方のない大手道の “ある構造” と、そこから導かれる「三法師邸」の驚くべき可能性について、今回もまた、あえて申し上げてみたいのです。

なぜか「大手道」両側の門（赤丸）は、左右が対になって、ピタリと向き合っている…

このように左右の門が決まって必ず向き合う、という曲輪の造り方は、他の城郭や山岳寺院でもポピュラーな手法だったのかどうか、たいへん気になって来ました。

そこで例えば、安土城と同じく、直線的な城道の左右に曲輪が並ぶ犬山城はどうだったか？と確認してみますと、下図の曲輪群のうち、「桐の丸」と「樅の丸」は向き合う入口が近かったものの、伝来の城絵図では門の位置ははっきりとズレて描かれていて、安土城ほどにピタリと向き合う手法ではなかったようです。

そして遺構が崩れている小牧山城や近江八幡城では、左右の曲輪の門がピタリと向き合う可能性は、ひょっとすると一、二箇所はあるのかもしれませんが、とても断定はできない状態ですから、安土城大手道の門の位置は、そうとうに意図的であるように感じられてなりません。

【妄想的仮説】もしも赤丸の位置に前代未聞の「コの字形 渡櫓門」があったら…

「まさか…」というご感想はもっともでしょうが、ご覧のように左右の櫓門を、幅１～２間・長さ５間ほどの渡り廊下（もしくは太鼓橋）で空中をつないで、「伝羽柴秀吉邸」と「伝前田利家邸」を自由に行き来できる形になっていたとすれば、この一帯の使い方には、劇的な変化があったのではないでしょうか。

つまり ＜大手道左右の曲輪は一体化して使われた＞ という可能性を、ピタリと向き合った門の位置が、物語っているのではないか… と申し上げてみたいのです。

そしてこれは、「豪壮な櫓門」の向かい側の、「伝前田利家邸」の門の遺構が完全に失われていて、復元は不可能、という悪条件にも支えられた仮説であることを白状しますが、この仮説を推し進めた場合、一帯は、全体がひな壇状に下段(表)～上段(奥)になっていたようにも思えて来ます。

【妄想的仮説その２】大手道左右の曲輪は一体化されて＜下段・中段・上段＞に？？

　各復元図で隅櫓とか台所とされている建物の位置は、当サイトが申し上げた来た
　「詰ノ丸(奥)の左手前隅角」という、天守の位置に当たるのかもしれない＞

余談）さて、映画の『タイムスクープハンター』ですが、封切り日に映画を観るなど生涯初ではないかと思いつつ、誘惑にあらがえませんでした。
簡単にネタばらしになるような論評は避けまして、観終わった瞬間にヒラメいたのは、問題のナゾの炎上は、山頂の主郭部が “すべて” 焼け落ちた点にこそ、本当の、事の真相が隠されているのではないかと、改めて感じた次第です。
と申しますのも、伏見城にしても、大坂城にしても、城内に寝返る者などが出て「落城」という形に陥ると、本丸周辺がまるごと全焼したりしたわけですが、一方では寛永度の二条城天守のように、落雷で焼失しても本丸御殿が延焼しなかったケースもあったわけで、両者のメカニズムの違いが、もっと解明されると、いいのではないでしょうか。
