内藤昌先生の復元による安土城天主の模型

これまでの『天守指図』に対する否定的な意見のうち、最も有力な論拠は「肝心の吹き抜け構造が文献史料にまったく登場しない」というものでした。

ところが前回の記事のとおり、『信長記』類「安土御天主之次第」のまさに冒頭に、それは「高さ１２間余の蔵」として明記されていた可能性があり、そのように考えることで『信長記』類の歴史的な “謎” も解決しうることを申し上げました。

それにしても「高さ１２間余の蔵」が文字どおりの構造だとすると、それは具体的にどのようなものだったのでしょう。

復元模型の「吹き抜け」は高さ約９間４尺を想定

まず「１２間余」という高さですが、内藤先生の復元では（立面図によると）吹き抜けの総高は約９間４尺であり、それよりさらに２間以上（およそ１階分）は高かったことになります。

かねてから『天守指図』の吹き抜け構造については、強度的な疑問が投げ掛けられて来ただけに、ここはやや慎重にならざるをえません。

そこで結論に近いところを先に申し上げますと、「高さ１２間余の蔵」とは、『天守指図』のような一つの巨大な空間というより、やはり太田牛一の “真意” を汲み取って、あくまでも「蔵」としての貯蔵を目的とする階層的な姿を思い浮かべるべきではないかと思われるのです。

大洲城（愛媛県）の復元天守と台所櫓

ご覧の大洲城天守は、平成１６年に復元された珍しい四重の天守で、内部に独特の構造を持っていることでも知られています。

その復元は伝来の雛形をもとに（奇しくも『天守指図』批判の急先鋒だった）故・宮上茂隆先生が基本設計を行い、その後、三浦正幸先生が設計を引き継がれたという、我が国の城郭研究においても注目すべき建築です。

そうした大洲城天守には、１～２階と３～４階をそれぞれ貫く通柱（心柱）があり、１～２階については、その柱のすぐ脇に「吹き抜け」構造の階段室があったのです。

ご覧のように「二間四方」の吹き抜けのスペースを介して、階段と踊り場が設けられていました。

一方、『天守指図』の三重目にも、注目すべき「二間四方」が存在するのです。

この二間四方は本当に「舞台」だったのか？

天主中央のひときわ太い通柱（「本柱」）の脇に「二間四方」の区画が描かれていて、そこに「ふたい（舞台）」という池上右平の書き込みがあります。

これもまた賛否両論の対象になった箇所ですが、内藤先生の復元においても、吹き抜け空間に突き出して設けられた（能や幸若舞のための）小ぶりな舞台だったとされています。

しかし、池上右平の “加筆” の修正をめざす『天守指図』新解釈から申せば、むしろこの小さい「二間四方」の方こそ、大洲城天守と同様の階段室であり、実際の「吹き抜け」そのものであったように思われてなりません。

そして残り約２０坪の中央のスペースこそ、まさに太田牛一が『信長記』類に書き残そうとした「蔵」の床面であって、これが階段室の位置を変えながら階を幾重にも構築することで、「高さ１２間余の蔵」という前代未聞の構造も具体化できたと想定しうるのではないでしょうか。
