問題の「加賀少将邸」四重櫓と萩城天守の構造的な“類似”から言えること

このところ申し上げて来た「築城当初の聚楽第には天守が無かった可能性」に関しては、これまでずっと『聚楽第図屏風』等には「天守」が描かれている、と言われ続けて来たわけですから、もし天守が無いとなれば、ご覧の天守らしき建物（四重櫓？／間近の貼紙には「加賀少将」と墨書あり）はいったい何なのか？ という一件が、最後に残された問題と言えるでしょう。

かく申し上げて来た私も、この件については、ややおぼつかない状態ですが、ただ、今年発表された聚楽第跡地の地中探査の結果が出る以前から、屏風絵の建物については、ある “印象” を持ち続けて来ました。

――― それは、この建物が、毛利輝元が建造した「萩城天守」と、構造的によく似ているなぁ… という印象でした。

などと申しますのは、試しに、ご覧の萩城天守の古写真を、その左右を反転させたうえで、『聚楽第図屏風』の描写と並べて見てみますと…

! !―― 両者ともに、背後に ＜大型の付け櫓＞ が付く構造が共通していたのでは？

ご覧のとおり、両者は背後に大型の付け櫓が付属している点が共通しておりまして、それを除く本体部分も規模・構造ともに似たような所があり、そのため右側写真の『聚楽第図屏風』の方は “四重櫓” と言いつつも、その内部は五階か六階建てであったように見えて来ます。
　
　
そして、いっそう重要な事柄は、以前のブログ記事でも申し上げたごとく、萩城天守とは、本丸や指月山山頂の詰丸を背後に背負う形であって、そうした姿はどこか ＜豊臣大坂城の西ノ丸天守＞ へのオマージュとして（関ヶ原合戦の際にはそこを拠点として天下をうかがった）毛利輝元の“思い”が込められた天守ではなかったのか？ という点でしょう。

豊臣大坂城の西ノ丸天守の位置→惣構(そうがまえ)の中心点でもあった（※関連記事）

萩城天守の位置→絵図の中央やや下（毛利家文庫蔵『萩絵図』より）

すなわち、豊臣秀頼のいた本丸を背後に背負いつつ、西向きに建っていた西ノ丸天守。

そして同じく、指月山の詰丸や本丸を背負いつつ、南向きに建っていた萩城天守。

この萩城天守の方は、天守背後の北面に「大型の付け櫓」を付属させて、本丸との連絡の機能を持たせていた…

となれば、それとよく似た『聚楽第図屏風』の四重櫓もまた、「大型の付け櫓」のある方向に、必ずや「本丸」があったはず!!…

ということで、両者を「大型の付け櫓」を重視しながら見比べますと、このような考え方にならざるをえないわけでして、そうなると、おのずと『聚楽第図屏風』の方の描写は（これが仮に本丸の北西隅の「天守」であったとしても…）そもそも “建物の向きがおかしい” と言わざるを得ないのです。

問題の建物は、構造面から言えば、実際は ＜真逆＞ を向いていたはず…

そこで、当ブログなりの想定をさらなる我田引水で申し上げますと、この『聚楽第図屏風』の四重櫓は、聚楽第本丸を取り囲んでいた大名屋敷（広義の二ノ丸）のいずれかで、本丸を背後に背負いつつ、城外を向いて建っていたと考えた場合は、実は、それとよく似た姿の城が一つ、思い当たります。

【ご参考】山形城の古絵図より

豊臣政権下で外様の大大名であった最上義光の山形城は、慶長年間に拡充して修築され、ご覧のとおり（奇しくも聚楽第と同じく？）本丸に天守が無かったかわりに、二の丸の西側の中程に「御三階櫓」を設けていました。
　
　
この三重櫓、城内で最大の櫓でありながら、防御的な観点から申せば、どこか中途半端な位置に築かれておりまして、その点では意図がよく分かりません。

ひょっとして、この櫓は豊臣家の「西ノ丸天守」と何か関連性があったのでしょうか？…

では、ここまでご覧いただいたところで、大変に遅ればせながら、聚楽第での「加賀少将邸」の位置を確認しますと…

広島市立中央図書館蔵『諸国古城之図』山城 聚楽

――― 前田利家（加賀筑前守・左近衛権少将）邸は、ご覧の『諸国古城之図』の「山城 聚楽」では、本丸のちょうど西側の! ! 二ノ丸にあったとされるのです。

一説には、前田利家邸は、後に築造された「北ノ丸」の位置であったとも伝わりますが、ご覧の有名な絵図では西側の二ノ丸に描かれていて、もしもこの位置に、かの四重櫓（＝西ノ丸天守!?）が背後に大型の付け櫓を備えつつ、城外の西を向いて建っていたと仮定しますと、

それは背後の本丸を守る以上に、大陸遠征をひかえたこの時期、より東側の「御所」も守護すべく、ひときわ象徴的に、そこ（王城警護の最前列）に在ったのだとさえ思えて来ます。…

実に、この辺りに、問題の「加賀少将邸」四重櫓の謎を解く、大きなヒントがひそんでいるように感じるのですが、どうでしょうか。
