さらにもう一基あった？大坂城天守 ～１５９６年度年報補筆の不思議～

前回に申し上げた、慶長伏見地震で被災した豊臣秀吉の大坂城天守は、その後、どうなったのでしょうか。
この点については、以前の記事（仮説：大坂城には「五代」におよぶ天守建造の歴史があった）でも申し上げたとおり、有名な西ノ丸の天守が重要なカギを握っているように思われます。

　　　　　　　１．豊臣秀吉による創建天守（天正１３年１５８５年完成）
　　　　　　　２．西ノ丸天守（慶長５年１６００年頃完成）
　　　　　　　３．豊臣秀頼による再建天守（慶長８年１６０３年以降の完成か）
　　　　　　　４．徳川幕府による再建天守（寛永４年１６２７年完成）
　　　　　　　５．現在の復興天守閣（昭和６年１９３１年竣工）
　
　
通説では大坂城天守は「三代」にわたるものであり、ご覧の当サイトの仮説で申しますと、１～３が通説では１基の天守としてカウントされていて、すなわち豊臣時代の天守はあくまでも１基であり、慶長伏見地震による被災や倒壊は無かったとされています。

また通説では、関ヶ原合戦の前に、豊臣政権の三奉行が徳川家康の罪状を書き連ねた弾劾状「内府ちかひ(違い)の条々」に登場する “西ノ丸の天守” についても、それを「大坂城天守」の１基としてカウントするようなことはありません。

しかし、これも以前の記事で申し上げたとおり、西ノ丸天守の位置は下図でご覧のように、秀吉が晩年に設けた「惣構（そうがまえ）」の中心点に築かれた、と考えることが出来そうなのです。

つまり西ノ丸天守とは、慶長伏見地震による被災を踏まえて計画された “震災復興天守” だったのではないか―――
そしてそのことを百も承知だったはずの豊臣三奉行（および石田三成）は、弾劾状ではあえて、家康が勝手に西ノ丸に天守を建てたと、事情を知らぬ諸大名にハッタリをかましたのではないか―――
というふうにも思われてならないのです。

現に、文献上では、西ノ丸天守は豊臣三奉行の一人・増田長盛（ました ながもり）の手配で築かれた、と書いたものがあって、その辺の疑いはかなり濃厚です。

そこで当サイトでは、西ノ丸天守を「大坂城天守」の１基（一代）としてカウントすべきではないか、と申し上げて来たわけです。

ところが、前回ご覧いただいたルイス・フロイスの報告書には、取り上げた文章の前の方にちょっと気になる “妙な記述” があって、今回は是非その件を申し上げたいと思います。

早速、問題の箇所をご覧いただきますが、これは、フロイスが慶長伏見地震による都や大坂の被災状況を伝えるうえで、（おそらくは都や大坂の予備知識が無いイエズス会士のために）年報の１５９６年よりもずっと以前の大坂築城について、改めて書き添えた部分になります。

堺から三里（レーグア）隔たり、都に向かう街道に造られた大坂の市（まち）には、民衆がその造営を見て驚嘆に駆られるように、太閤の宮殿と邸に巨大な装置ができた。
（中略）
このように種々の豪壮な諸建築が非常に迅速にしかも入念に完成されるためには、すべての大工、鍛治工、金工、絵師、その他動員される限りの職人たちを、（太閤）は都とその近郊だけでなく、近くのあらゆる領国から召集した。
また（太閤）は大坂の市の第一の塔（天守閣）を改修するように、そしてもっと高く、すなわち七層にまでするように命じた。
　
　
！！… 最後の二行で「あれ？」とお感じになったのではないでしょうか。

築城を始めたばかりの秀吉が、なんと「大坂の市の第一の塔（天守閣）を改修」して「七層にまでするように命じた」と言うのです。
　
　
こんなことを書いた文献は他に無いと思うのですが、ちなみにこれ以降の文面では、大坂城天守は「七層」だと何度も書かれているため、まさにこの築城の時に七層に改められ、秀吉以前はそれよりも低い天守が存在していたかのような書きぶりなのです。

しかも、やや細かいことを申しますと、フロイスはこれ以降の文中で「私が言ったように、七層にまで積まれ」云々というふうに、天守が七層に改められた件をくり返していて、問題の箇所は単なる書き間違いとも思われません。
　
　
ただし、この場合、「改修」とは言っても、秀吉の大坂築城が天守台石垣の構築から始まったことは別の文献で明確のようですので、仮にこの報告書のとおりだとしても、厳密には、建物を直に改修したのではなく、それを「七層で建て直した」ということなのかもしれません。

―――で、事の真偽はともかく、秀吉以前の状況はどうだったかを再確認しておきますと、大坂城の前身・石山本願寺が織田信長との戦いの末に開城・退去したあと、すぐに信長の家臣団が入って、退去時に炎上した城内の修築を始めたらしいことが判っています。

信長は本願寺を攻めている間に安土に豪壮華麗な天守を築いて「天下布武」をめざしていたが、大坂石山を手中にすると、本丸は丹羽長秀に、千貫矢倉は織田信澄に預けて在番させた（『細川忠興軍功記』）。
また信長は天正八年九月、明智光秀に城の縄張りを命じたという（『大坂濫觴書一件』）。
いずれ大坂を居城とする考えであったらしいが、天正十年（一五八二）六月二日、信長は光秀の謀反により急襲され、京都本能寺で自害してしまう。

さてさて、秀吉以前のこの城には丹羽長秀（にわ ながひで）、明智光秀（あけち みつひで）という、城づくりを語るうえで欠かせない二人の重要人物が登場して来ます。

ご存知、丹羽長秀と言えば、安土城の普請奉行も務めた織田家の重臣で、一方の明智光秀は築城名人としても知られ、この二人のあとで（一時、池田恒興の預かりを経て）同じ「秀」の字つながりの秀吉が、大坂を大城郭に築き直したことになります。
　
　
そして松岡先生の指摘のように明智光秀が縄張りを行っていたとしますと、“問題の天守” は、例えば光秀ゆかりの福知山城や亀岡城などの例から類推して、本丸の中央付近にあったと想像できるのかもしれません。

そこで本丸にいた丹羽長秀の名をとって、これを仮に＜長秀在番天守＞と呼ぶことにしますと、冒頭の「五代」云々の話を踏まえるなら、それらの前にもう一代さかのぼって、合計「六代」になってしまうのです。

もう、いいかげんにしろ！…というお叱(しか)りの声が聞こえるようで、たいへんに恐縮です。

ですが、当時は大坂周辺でも高槻城や有岡城にも天守があったようですし、それらが＜天下布武の版図をしめす革命記念碑＞であったのなら、信長が長年かかって攻略した石山本願寺の地にも、すぐさま、天主を築け、と命じたとしても、それほど不自然ではなかったように思われるのですが…。

ご覧のいずれの天守も初重と二重目が同大で建ち上がり、その上に小さな望楼が載っている、という点では、まさに１５９６年度年報補筆の「もっと高く、すなわち七層にまで」改修したという話に、ピタリと合致しそうで、どうも胸騒ぎが治まりません。

と申しますのは、ご承知のとおり秀吉の大坂城天守も、天守台上の初重と二重目が同大で建ち上がっていたことは、ほぼ確実のようだからです。
　
　
で、妄想ついでにもう一言だけ申し上げるならば、もしも、もしも明智光秀が山崎の戦いで羽柴秀吉に勝っていたなら、いずれは光秀も、自らが縄張りした大坂城に入城して、この＜長秀在番天守＞に登って天下に号令していたのではないか―――

などという、二重三重の妄想が頭の中を駆けめぐってしまうのです。……
